The LSU Museum of Art (LSU MOA) collects, conserves, exhibits, and interprets
the fine and decorative arts entrusted to its care and stewardship, providing
opportunities for research, education, and enjoyment to students, scholars, and visitors.
It sets itself apart through the strength of its collection and the breadth of research
opportunities offered by the Louisiana State University (LSU) academic community.
Further, it engages collaboratively with its Shaw Center for the Arts partners
to enrich the cultural life of Baton Rouge by offering a range of cultural activities.
The Future
The LSU MOA participates in LSU's National Flagship Agenda 2010,
a seven-year plan to bring LSU to a new level of excellence. It focuses on
increasing research and scholarly productivity and the quality and competitiveness
of LSU graduate and undergraduate students. The outcomes are designed to place LSU in a position
to compete on all levels with the finest public universities in the country.
The LSU MOA will focus on research, study, and community engagement to achieve a new level of excellence for its collection by:
- expanding the current strengths of the collection and developing new collection streams to enhance the museum's scholarship;
- offering diverse collection research opportunities for faculty and students;
- designing a varied exhibition program that offers interpretive opportunities for
all museum visitors to understand and appreciate diverse aspects of the collection;
- developing educational and public programs that effectively advance collection access.
