One of the many ways that Louisiana State University shares its cultural
heritage is through the LSU Museum of Art. The Museum’s collections, programs,
exhibitions and publications are available for everyone to enjoy. Unlike most
university museums, the LSU Museum of Art is in downtown Baton Rouge, in the
Shaw Center for the Arts. Surrounded by other attractions, museums and
restaurants, the Museum and the Manship Theatre have collectively lead a
renaissance for downtown Baton Rouge and the re-emergence of the vibrant
“Third Street District”.
Come take a look for yourself. Enjoy the view of the Mississippi River,
just
a few yards away, and discover some fabulous exhibitions. In the fall of
2009, the Museum will feature works from the collection of JPMorgan Chase
entitled Of People and Places. This exhibition previews a larger survey to
celebrate the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection’s 50th Anniversary in 2009. In
late February of 2010 the Museum of Art will feature George
Ohr Rising: The
Emergence of an American Master. George Ohr was the self-styled “mad potter of
Biloxi” and produced a most extraordinary body of work by an American
ceramicist.
In addition to exhibitions, there are education programs virtually every
week and exciting events year round. We invite you to visit us, join the Museum,
sign up to receive our membership information and be inspired by our
collection, vision and programs. Come see what the LSU Museum of Art has
to
offer.
Cordially,
